Automated Optical Inspection

CyberOptics QX Series
Pre-Owned 2D AOI

Post-reflow optical inspection that catches what a paste measurement cannot: the part that is missing, backwards, or soldered badly.

A QX images the finished board and compares what it sees against a programmed library. It picks up missing and misplaced components, wrong polarity, tombstones and bad joints, and it does it on every board rather than on whatever a person has time to look at. The QX line runs either inline after reflow or as a standalone station, and false-call rate is the number that decides whether operators keep trusting it — which is why programming matters more than the camera.

If pre-owned is the wrong call

The QX line is 2D. It reads the board from above, which is enough for presence, polarity and gross joint defects, but it cannot measure height — so lifted leads and insufficient solder are harder for it to call reliably. If your defect escapes are the ones a 2D camera struggles with, the fix is a 3D platform rather than a cheaper 2D one.

Worth a look if

  • Your operators are doing final visual inspection by eye and escapes are still getting to the customer.
  • You already run SPI and want to close the loop on the placement and reflow side too.
  • A QX is running on another line and matching it saves you a second programming skillset.
  • You need documented post-reflow inspection for IPC-A-610 Class 2 or Class 3 work.

What you get with it

Every pre-owned system leaves ASC disassembled to component level, rebuilt with OEM-grade parts, recalibrated against traceable standards, and documented. It ships with a calibration certificate, an inspection report, and warranty coverage, and it is supported by the same engineers who support the new equipment.
